FOTD * Drama

Photobucket

I wanted a little bit more this time, so I decided to play around with some of my new L’oreal HiP products that I bought at Rite Aid BOGO, but I’d never used. I think it turned out ok. The camera of course doesn’t show how striking it was in person. I did my best to brighten the pictures enough to really let everyone see. Please watch the Youtube clip for products used. Thanks for watching and stay flyy!

FOTD * Floating Teals, Full on Lust

Photobucket

I went on a date with my mother last night and decided to do a smokey look. As I perused the internet for ideas i came back to this MAC look that I have been coveting. Full on Lust. Of course I didn’t use any of the one MAC product that I have, I used all drugstore. The video is below.

I also bought some nail polish and some new eyeshadows this week. That’s all ladies, keep it pimpin’.

Here is my smokey teal based on MAC’s Full on Lust look with a little tweaking to get it how i liked it. The products I used are detailed in the video:

Curly Hair * What is Plopping?

From naturallycurly.com

plopping.jpg

It sounds like some new exercise trend. ‘Plopping’ refers to a method of helping to create curl structure prior to diffusing or air drying that has become a favorite among NaturallyCurly.com members.

As described by a member, after one washes and conditions the hair, you apply product to wet hair and get ready to ‘plop.’ Put a t-shirt or aquis towel down on a chair - some use the toilet with seat down. Leaning over the towel/t-shirt with your head hanging down bent over from your waist, position the wet hair onto towel so the curls are all concentrated on top of the head. Then pull the towel taut against the top and sides of the head, grabbing the 2 sides and twisting them into long sausage rolls near each ear. Take these rolled up towel extensions and pull them to the nape of the neck and secure them by tying them together.

Says one reader, ‘Then I put go about my morning routine — makeup, coffee, etc. The towel helps to absorb excess water while letting the curls ’set’ into clumps. When you take the towel off, gently shake down the curls and diffuse ’s’ shaped, individual curly locks, with some volume at the roots.

If you want extra control, another member suggests spritzing on on some spray gel or scrunch in a bit more gel after you take the towel off.

Make-up Gets Noticed in the Boardroom

Make Up Gets Noticed in the Boardroom

In the third of our extracts from her book, Drop Dead Brilliant, Lesley Everett discusses make-up and grooming.

It is a fact that women who wear make-up in business generally get better jobs, get promoted more quickly and get paid more. Whether we like it or not, we live in a very visual world and we get judged on appearances.

In fact, in a survey, 64 per cent of directors said that women who wore make-up look more professional and 18 per cent of directors said that women who do not wear make-up “look like they can’t be bothered to make an effort”.

Most of us love to see a perfectly made-up face, but many women still wear little if any make-up for business or stick to the same colours and techniques they have used for the past ten years.

I recommend visiting an image consultant or beauty therapist for a make-up lesson if you are stuck in a rut. Take along your make-up bag and revamp it. Make-up does have a shelf life, so if you have products that have been there for years, discard them.

Men also need to consider make-up, which is something they should be aware of for diminishing minor skin imperfections that could be distracting. Foundation or base make-up should be considered if your skin tone is uneven or blotchy, and certainly if you are presenting under bright lights or making a TV appearance. Always apply your base after a moisturiser. Choose a colour close to your natural skin tone and you will give your skin a healthy and natural appearance.Don’t try to create a tan with foundation, it will just look false. Try a tinted moisturiser instead if you feel you are looking a little pale. Meanwhile, concealers will diminish the appearance of blemishes and conceal dark patches around the eyes.Men also need to pay careful attention to grooming: dark and bushy eyebrows can look intimidating if they are too thick and if they meet in the middle. Keep the area between the eyebrows clear by plucking and, if you cannot bear to do it yourself, visit a salon.

Facial hair has long been considered a potential blight on career advancement; a survey suggests that 60 per cent of businessmen without beards or moustaches feel that these features are a bad sign. Some feel that the person can’t be bothered to shave and others that they are hiding something.

Overall, remember the way that you dress is the packaging of your personal brand; whether you like it or not, you will be judged on your appearance.

A Little Haul

I bought L’oreal HiP. bright shadow duo in Showy. The bright blue side is supposed to be a MAC Parrot dupe from the MAC Originals line. Since I don’t own any MAC products [yet], I can’t tell you either way. I will say that it’s a pretty color. It’s a shimmery teal blue that goes on very smoothly. The other half is a navy blue that it a little more matte. I swatched the teal side because we rarely get to see these swatches on brown-er skin–it does make a difference. I will upload some pictures when I figure out what I want to do with it. Right now I paired it with a shimmery brown, and it looks ok… I’ll have to play around a bit.

Ulta didn’t have showy in either store near my house so I bought this at Target for $5.34.

With these swatches I used a dry brush, the same amount of swipes and pressure. I dry wiped the brush clean between each use. [Yes, I am hairy!]

L’Oreal HiP Cream Eyeliner Review and a Haul

So I decided to spend all of my Christmas money today. I bought facial products [cleansers, scrubs etc.,] nail polishes, blushes and some other stuff that I have been wanting.

I went to Ulta and took advantage of the BOGO on L’Oreal HiP that they have going on until January 12. I bought the HiP Color Truth cream eyeliner in black #905.

20070105_l__oreal-hip-019_2__small.jpegI just had to try it out even though it’s midnight. Let me tell you, I love it. I even like the brush it comes with that everyone seems to hate. I might take back my Japonesque eyeliner brush that I bought on sale tonight too. [It was $11, I think it's normally $13.] It’s super super thin and the bristles are firm but soft. I will think about it. If I scratch my eye up with this loreal brush or the angled brush that I already have, I’ll keep it.

100_2680.jpg

The key to this liner is use a teensy tiny itty bitty amount. I’m serious,–barely touch the pot. I lined both eyes, twice on the top and the outer corner of each eye. Then I used my black NYC pencil, dipped the tip into the pot and lined my water line. Can we say wow?!? Say wow people! WOW! The picture to the right is after I lined both eyes. I did not touch the pot again after the first dip. It began to fade after the 6th time that I swiped my hand.

Here’s the not so good part, it’s $11 (three dollars less the similar liner made by MAC.) And, it’s not waterproof. Not that I plan on crying or working out with it on, I just don’t want racoon eyes, so for now, I will limit it to the upper lid.

So as a review, I like this eyeliner because it’s smooth and black black. I can apply it a very easily, much easier than my liquid liner. This is a keeper.

Can you see where i dipped the brush?

FOTD * Not-So-Moody Blues and a Nail Polish Review

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I literally stepped out of the house from 11:30pm until 12:10am. I kissed my friends and went back home. good times. I’m old. :)

100_2567-copy.jpg

I did a New Year’s Eve face, and as usual, it’s all about the eyes. I didn’t spend a lot of time or thought with this one, it shows a little with the eyeliner and blending, but it served it’s purpose. The video for this one is at the bottom.
