Thursday Review: Avanti Silicon Mix
What is it?
It’s a hair treatment. A conditioner.
What is it supposed to do?
It’s supposed to restore shine and softness to dry, damaged and weak hair.
What is it made of?
INGREDIENTS : Water, Mineral Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycerine, Citric Acid, Cetrimonium Chloride, Dimethycone Copolyol, Cyclomethicone, Keratin, Ceramide, Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance.
Does it live up to it’s claim?
Sort of.
I’ve been using this regularly for two months now. I waited this long so that I may give an honest review. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5. A lot of people really love this product. I can understand why, it smells great, it gives your hair the slip it needs to be detangled properly, and it left my hair decently moisturized and conditioned. BUT, I haven’t found it to be any more special that any other conditioner that I have purchased.
It’s base ingredients are silicone and protein. If you hair doesn’t like silicone (Pantene for example) or keratin (protein) then this is not the product for you. It also mineral oil in it for moisture and for added slip, but mineral oil is a cheap filler, while it does penetrate your hair strands, but it’s not the best choice out there as far as moisture-adding oils go.
It’s fairly cheap, you can order it online or if you’re lucky, you can find it in CVS and your local BSS. It’s a Dominican product, but it’s slowly becoming more popular, meaning, you no longer have to place special orders and pay big money to find it.
I use it mixed with my regular heavy conditioner when I deep condition and I feel that my hair needs a little extra protein. I rinse it out completely after I deep condition. If you run across it, pick it up, it’s truly worth a try whether you are natural or chemically treated.
